Memories of Kindness:
An evening of Bulgarian and Jewish music,
to commemorate the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust
During World War II, members of the Bulgarian government, the Orthodox Church, and individual citizens united to stop the deportation of Bulgarian Jews to Nazi concentration camps. Nearly 50,000 lives were saved. In honor of this event, Nevenka Folk Ensemble will be joined by world-renowned Bulgarian musicians Ivan and Tzvetanka Varimezovi to present a performance of traditional Bulgarian and Sephardic Jewish music, including pieces by celebrated Jewish Bulgarian composer Nikolay Kaufman.
